Resources to Support Victims of the Earthquake in Haiti

Many employees at MassAging member facilities have family and friends living in Haiti and have thus been directly impacted by the earthquake in Haiti that took place on January 12th.  We know that there are numerous ways that our members are helping to support their staffs that have been impacted.

We invite members to share the things they are doing to help their employees who have been directly impacted by this disaster, and MassAging will post those ideas in a "clearinghouse" on this website.

Ways MassAging Members are Supporting Victims of the Haitian Earthquake

The Visiting Nurse Foundation (Visiting Nurse Assisted Living) is collecting donations for Doctors without Borders and will be matching all donations dollar for dollar.  Click here to view the VNA donation request form.

Hebrew Senior Life is creating a central pool of vacation time for those Haitian employees who have a need.  HSL employees can donate a portion of their unused vacation time into this pool.  HSL's Human Resources Department will be working with managers to distribute the donations among employees who need the extra time.  HSL has also held special prayer services and has offered trauma response services with Creole -speaking counselors to employees.

MI Health/Care has set up a fund on their website to specifically assist their staff as they with this tragedy.  People who want to help can go to www.mihcs.com and click on the Donate Haiti link for updates and to make a donation.  Any remaining funds collected but not needed to assist these families will be donated to one of the large relief organizations such as Catholic Relief Services or the American Red Cross.

In addition, MI has provided names, ages and street addresses of all those missing (identified by MI employees) to their federal Congressional delegation and have requested assistance with notification to the families here in the US.

Springhouse held a powerful prayer service to honor their Haitian team members and to pray for their family members and friends.  Substantial donations were raised by the Springhouse Residents' Association and Board of Directors that was directed to Partners in Health.   In addition, Springhouse is collecting sheets and blankets and their Assisted Living Residents are making "health kits" containing face clothes, soap, toothbrushes, combs, bandaids and hand towels to be sent to Haiti.

Financial Contributions

In the immediate aftermath, financial contributions to one of the numerous charitable relief organizations are most needed.  MassAging has made a contribution of $5,000 to Partners in Health, a Boston-based charitable organization,  that has been working in Haiti for more than 20 years.
